Aralia elata (Miq.) Seem. is a deciduous shrub native to East Asia that has been used in traditional medicine, utilizing its bark and roots, preparing decoctions or poultices to address a range of inflammatory conditions such as rheumatism, joint pain, bruises, swellings, and various skin inflammations. However, there is limited research on anti-inflammatory effects of the young twigs and leaves of A. elata. This study revealed the anti-inflammatory effect of extracts of A. elata in suppressing NO production induced by LPS-activated RAW264.7 cells. Additionally, LC-MS/MS coupled with a molecular network was employed to identify the chemical constituents from A. elata. As a result, 39 putative compounds were annotated from A. elata extracts, including fatty acids, phenolics, terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, organic acids, and others, by analyzing the mass precursor ions and fragmentation pathways of peaks detected in the chromatograms and comparing them to those of standards or those of reference mass spectra obtained from the public mass databases. Our findings highlight the anti-inflammatory potential of A. elata in traditional medicine and propose the active compounds responsible for its anti-inflammatory effects, which need to be confirmed in further studies. |
