Carbon-based materials have emerged as an excellent matrix for laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LDI-TOF-MS) due to high laser absorption, photo-thermal conversion efficiency, electrical and thermal conductivity. Ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) have ultrahigh surface area and well-ordered micro/nanopore structure, providing high adsorption capacity for the enrichment of environmental pollutants. Zeolite templated carbons (ZTCs), compared to traditional OMCs, have a high graphitic structure, large surface area, and small pores.[1] The unique properties of these carbon nanomaterials offer advantages for enrichment and LDI-TOF-MS analysis of environmental pollutants, making them easily applicable for analysis of toxic chemicals in biological and environmental media. Herein, we harnessed ZTCs as functional matrix for enrichment and LDI-TOF-MS analysis of polyaromatic carbons (PACs) substrate, and its efficiency was compared with CMK-8, one of the traditional OMCs.[2] As a result, ZTCs showed much higher signal intensity and lower LOD value than OMCs, and thus it was successfully demonstrated that ZTCs are promising functional matrix for the efficient detection of environmental pollutants. |
