Cancer is a leading cause of mortality worldwide. It originates from cells that evade the normal cycle of apoptosis, leading to uncontrolled proliferation and disruption of bodily functions. Medical professionals emphasize that early diagnosis of cancer is crucial due to limited treatment options in advanced stages of the disease. Metabolomics, the comprehensive analysis of
metabolic processes, is widely utilized to identify key biomarkers indicative
of disease states. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) has emerged
as a predominant analytical technique in this field. However, quality control
(QC) in LC-MS-based analyses remains a significant challenge despite its
widespread application. This study aimed to enhance QC in LC-MS analysis of
cancer cell lines by employing chemical mixtures and internal standards. We
analyzed cell lines derived from lung, colorectal, and breast cancers (n = 5,
6, and 6, respectively) to establish robust baseline data by characterizing
their metabolic profiles. This foundational work facilitates subsequent comparative studies focused on identifying specific biomarkers associated with these cancers. By improving quality QC measures in LC-MS analysis, we contribute to the development of more reliable and reproducible metabolomic profiling techniques for cancer research, potentially leading to improved diagnostic and prognostic tools. |
