Lithium has numerous applications in daily life, especially in lithium-ion batteries. Therefore, understanding the formation and solvation properties of ionic clusters containing lithium ions is essential for influencing ion transport behaviors. In this research, we investigated (Li+I−)nLi+ cluster ions solvated with ethylenediamine using electrospray ionization–ion mobility spectrometry–mass spectrometry (ESI–IMS–MS). First, the solvation of several alkali halides was examined by ESI–MS. LiI combined best with ethylenediamine compared to other alkali halides. (ethylenediamine)n·(Li+I−)mLi+ complexes were observed by ESI-MS, and their structural information was obtained by IMS. Additionally, collision-induced dissociation (CID) experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to elucidate the specific structures and thermodynamic properties of the complexes. Interestingly, LiI and ethylenediamine formed clusters with different trends and structures compared to other alkali halides. These results suggest the solvation characteristics of alkali halide ions, especially (Li+I−)nLi+ ionic clusters with organic molecules such as ethylenediamine. |
