Nitrofurazone is a synthetic antimicrobial compound with a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It was commonly used as a veterinary drug, but its global use is gradually being banned due to its potential carcinogen effects. In this study, an improved analytical method for semicarbazide (SEM), which is the metabolite of nitrofurazone, was developed for chicken meat using an isotope dilution mass spectrometry method. The chicken powder was prepared by freeze-drying, pulverization, and sieving of raw chicken meat. The SEM and SEM-13C15N2 were derivatized using 2-nitrobenzaldehyde under the acidic conditions, and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was used for analysis. The method's validation was performed for two periods and resulted in good repeatability and reproducibility, indicating that the established method is suitable for analyzing trace levels of SEM concentration. |
