Rotenone has recently emerged as a reason for export bans on Korean agricultural products to Taiwan. Although it is permitted for use in organic farming in Korea and exempted from the maximum residue limit (MRL), it is considered a pesticide residue in Taiwan. Therefore, residue monitoring is essential to comply with Taiwan’s import standards. Rotenone is a natural pesticide compound extracted from the roots of Derris species, known for low mammalian toxicity and high fish toxicity. In this study, an LC-MS/MS method was developed and validated to analyze rotenone in agricultural products. Sample preparation followed the QuEChERS method, including extraction with acetonitrile, solid-phase extraction cleanup, and centrifugation. A C18 column was used for separation. Method validation was conducted in accordance with CODEX and SANTE guidelines. The method showed excellent linearity (r² > 0.999), acceptable recoveries, and high sensitivity, with a limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.64 μg/kg and 1.95 μg/kg, respectively. This validated method is expected to be a useful tool for monitoring rotenone in agricultural exports to Taiwan. |
