With the implementation of the Positive List System (PLS), establishing Maximum Residue Limit (MRLs) for minor crops has become increasingly important. Thistle and olive are crops with growing domestic consumption, yet only a few pesticides are registered for use. This study investigated the residue characteristics of sulfoxaflor in both crops following foliar application. To adjust for difference in spray volume, residue levels were normalized by dividing by the amount of active ingredient applied per treatment plot. The normalized initial residue was 14.23 mg/kg/g in thistle and 2.54 mg/kg/g in olive, showing a 5.6-fold higher level in thistle. This difference is attributed to crop-specific morphological traits. The major metabolite X11719474 was detected in thistle but not in olive, indicating distinct metabolic pathways between the two crops. The half-life was 4.1 days in thistle and 14.7 days in olive, consistent with previous findings that leafy vegetables tend to exhibit shorter half-lives than fruit crops. These results provide foundational data on sulfoxaflor residue behavior and metabolism in different crops. They may serve as scientific evidence for developing predictive models of pesticide dissipation and for establishing safe use guidelines and crop-specific MRLs. |
